First, the term
What "AI-pilled" actually means
AI-pilled (adj.) — you've realized AI is about to change everything. You start reimagining your role, your workflows, and what's even possible. And your family kind of hates you, because AI is all you talk about now.
Here's the part almost everyone gets wrong: being AI-pilled isn't about how much you use AI. Plenty of people open it every single day and have changed nothing about how they actually work.
It feels like magic even at the most basic level, so most people assume they're near the top. The reality is they're scratching the surface. Daily use is high, but nothing has actually changed.
So here's the honest map. Five levels, what each one really looks like, and the single move that bumps you up. Find yourself, then climb.
The Climb
The 5 levels at a glance
Each level isn't a new tool you buy. It's a deeper way of using what you already have. The jump is always about going further, not spending more.
Find Your Level
Take the 30-second quiz
Five quick questions. Answer honestly, not aspirationally, and I'll drop you on the level you're actually standing on. Then scroll to it and run its level-up move.
1.When you open an AI tool, you usually…
2.How much has AI actually changed how you work?
3.Do you have anything running without you?
4.When you find a better way to do something, you…
5."I have an idea" usually means…

Level 1
AI is a fancy search barThe Button Masher
You open AI, ask a one-off question, get an answer, and move on. Summarize a doc, fix an email, look something up. You might do it every single day, but you've never given it real context or pushed past the first reply.
You're here if you've never uploaded a file, used a Project, or told AI who you are before asking your question.
What's actually happening
It feels like magic and it saves you a little time, so you assume you're way ahead. You're getting maybe 5% out of it. Nothing about how you actually work has changed.
Level-up move
Before your next question, tell it who you are and what you're working on. Then ask. Context is the whole game, and it's the one move that pulls you up a level.
Level 2
A few saved moves, run every weekThe Side Quester
You've got a handful of prompts and tools you reuse. A go-to prompt for emails, a custom GPT, maybe one tool wired into part of your week. You're genuinely faster than you used to be.
You're here if you have saved prompts or a custom GPT, but every result still lives and dies with you. If you left, it would all break.
What's actually happening
You leveled up, but only you. Nothing changed for your team or your real workflow. The efficiency is glued to you personally, so it doesn't compound and it doesn't transfer.
Level-up move
Take your most-repeated task and turn it into a repeatable system, a saved skill or workflow that runs the same way every time, even when you're not the one running it.
Level 3
Whole tasks, start to finishThe Speedrunner
You've built workflows and agents that handle entire tasks with little to no babysitting. Real work now happens with minimal human touch, and you've stopped doing the boring parts by hand.
You're here if you've automated something end to end and it runs without you re-explaining it every time.
What's actually happening
This is the level where people quietly start whispering about layoffs, because some roles suddenly look optional. The work still gets done. It just doesn't need as many hands.
Level-up move
Connect two systems that don't talk to each other yet, and let an agent move the work between them automatically. That jump is what unlocks the next level.
Level 4
You rewired the whole gameThe Modder
Your core systems are wired into AI and agents run big parts of your job in the background. Your role looks nothing like it did six months ago, because you redesigned it around what AI can actually do.
You're here if AI agents are doing real work across your tools while you focus on the parts only you can do.
What's actually happening
Output per person goes way up. One person plus an agent stack now does what used to take a whole team. The org chart changes, not just the to-do list.
Level-up move
Stop bending AI to fit your old process. Redesign the process around the AI. Ask: if I built this from scratch today, knowing what agents can do, what would I delete?
Level 5
Unlimited resources, rules don't applyCreative Mode
Like a video game on creative mode. You don't ask if something's possible, you just build it. Every new model unlocks something that wasn't possible a few weeks ago, and you'll happily tear down what you built last week to rebuild it better.
You're here if you have an agent running right now while you read this, and "I have an idea" means "I'll ship it this weekend."
The cost of being here
This is where your friends and family genuinely start to worry about you. You're giving everything you've got to move as fast as AI moves, and you kind of love it.
Level-up move
There's no level-up move here. You're the one building what the next tier copies. So go make something nobody's made yet.
How to actually climb
The goal is not level 5 tomorrow
Nobody jumps from level 1 to level 5. You climb one rung at a time, and each rung is a single habit, not a purchase.
The people at the top aren't smarter. They just got curious, pushed one level past where it felt comfortable, and then did it again. The OnlyCFO line that started all of this puts it perfectly: we are all builders now. The best way to climb is to stop reading about AI and go build one small thing with it.
Figure out the level you're actually on. Run its level-up move this week. That's the whole strategy.
