What a "skill" actually is
A skill is one folder with a SKILL.md file inside. That file tells Claude: when this kind of task comes up, here's exactly how to handle it. That's the whole trick. No code. Just instructions Claude reads and follows.
Same file works in two homes:
Claude Code
Drop the skill folder into .claude/skills/ in your project. Done.
Claude desktop / Cowork
Open Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Add skill and upload the folder (or zip it and drop it in).
Install once. Use forever. Now the three.
Skill 1
Memory: Claude remembers you between chats
What it does: Claude saves what it learns about you into little note files, then reads them back at the start of every new chat. Your name, your projects, how you like things done, decisions you've made. Instead of re-explaining yourself every single time, it just knows.
Why it makes your AI smarter: This is the compounding one. The more you use it, the bigger the pile of notes, the more personal and sharp every answer gets. Week one it knows your name. Month three it knows your whole operation.
How to use it: Once installed, it runs on its own. When something worth remembering comes up, a preference, a decision, a fact about your work, it writes a new note. At the start of each session it reads them all back in. You can also just say "remember that I prefer short emails" and it files it.
Try this first: Tell it three things about yourself or your work, end the chat, start a fresh one, and ask "what do you know about me?" Watch it answer.
Skill 2
Reorganize: point it at a mess, get a clean system
What it does: Point Claude at a messy folder of random notes, screenshots, and half-finished files. It reads every single one, figures out what it is, and files it where it belongs. Renames the junk. Groups the loose stuff. Your folder cleans itself up.
Why it makes your AI smarter: A clean, organized system is one Claude can actually use. Once your files are sorted and labeled, every future task, finding things, summarizing, connecting ideas, gets faster and more accurate. Mess in, mess out. Order in, results out.
How to use it: Say "reorganize my downloads folder" or "sort out this notes folder." It scans everything, shows you the plan (what goes where, what to rename, what looks like junk), and asks before it moves anything. Nothing gets deleted without your say-so.
Try this first: Run it on your Downloads folder or your phone-screenshot dump. It's the fastest "oh, I get it" moment of the three.
Skill 3
Pause + Resume: never lose your place again
What it does: Two halves of one skill. When you're done working, you say pause and Claude writes down exactly what you were doing, where you stopped, and what's next. Next time you sit down, you say resume and it picks up like you never left.
Why it makes your AI smarter: Long projects usually die in the gap between sessions. You forget where you were, Claude forgets the context, and you waste 20 minutes rebuilding it. This kills that gap. Your work carries forward instead of restarting.
How to use it: End of a work session, say "pause." It saves a short handoff file. Next session, open the same project and say "resume," it reads the handoff and you're instantly back in flow. No re-explaining, no "where were we."
Try this first: Start any multi-step task, get halfway, say "pause," close everything, come back and say "resume." It'll tell you exactly where you left off.
Put It Together
Run all three and it clicks
Memory
Makes Claude know you.
Reorganize
Makes Claude know your stuff.
Pause + Resume
Makes Claude keep your momentum.
Stack all three and you stop starting over. Every session builds on the last one. That's what "gets smarter every time you use it" actually means. Not a smarter model, a smarter setup.
Get The Skills
Download all 3 skill files
Each one is a ready-to-use SKILL.md. No editing required, no vault-specific setup. Works in any Claude Code project or uploads straight into Claude desktop.
To install: download the file, drop the folder into .claude/skills/ (Claude Code) or upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills (desktop). Then just talk to Claude normally. The skill fires when it's relevant.
That's the whole system. Three files, two minutes, and Claude stops forgetting and starts compounding.
