Ingrain the CTS Framework.
Build Your AI Operating System.

Context, Tools, Skills. Three concepts that never change no matter which AI tool comes out next, and this is what living them actually looks like. The exact 5-step setup and all 5 copy-paste prompts, given away in full. Under an hour, no coding, no terminal.

CTS Framework · 5 Steps · 5 Prompts · No Code

The Framework

Context, Tools, Skills

Every AI tool you've ever heard of will be replaced by a better one within a year. The model changes, the app changes, the name changes. What doesn't change is this: any good AI system is built on three things, and it doesn't matter whether you're running Claude, ChatGPT, or whatever ships next.

Context

What your AI knows about you. Your instructions, your second brain, your meetings. Without it, every answer is generic.

Tools

What your AI can actually reach and use. Your inbox, your calendar, your voice. Without them, it can only talk.

Skills

What your AI does automatically from now on. Saved, repeatable, scheduled. Without them, you're re-teaching it forever.

Get all three wired together and you've got an AI operating system: something that gets smarter every time you touch it instead of resetting to zero. That's what the rest of this guide builds, step by step.

The Map

The whole setup, at a glance

Here's the full path before we go deep on each one, tagged by which pillar it builds. Do them top to bottom. Step 0 is a two-minute download, then it builds from there.

0

Download the desktop app

Setup

Get Claude on your actual computer, not just your phone. This is where you connect tools, save skills, and set up things that run while you sleep. The whole system lives here.

1

Let Claude interview you, then build your instructions

Context

Paste Prompt 1. Claude interviews you like a smart friend getting to know you, then writes a personal-instructions block that makes every future answer sound like it was written for you.

2

Paste those instructions into settings

Context

Drop the block Claude just wrote into Settings then Personalization. Now Claude knows who you are, what you do, and how you like to be talked to, in every single chat. Forever.

3

Connect your tools

Tools

Plug in Gmail, Calendar, and Drive under Settings then Connectors, and add a voice-to-text tool on top. This is the difference between Claude that talks and Claude that actually does things, faster.

4

Let Claude build your second brain

Context

Paste Prompts 2 and 3. Claude interviews you again, this time your whole life, then builds a folder of files that store everything about you, including your meetings, so it never starts from zero again.

5

Have Claude find and build your first automation

Skills

Paste Prompts 4 and 5. Claude finds the highest-leverage thing in your life to automate, then builds it as a skill and schedules it to run without you.

Step 0 — Before You Start

Get the desktop app

Download the Claude desktop app for Mac or Windows from claude.ai/download, or just use claude.ai in your browser. Don't run this whole setup from your phone. The desktop app is where you connect tools, save skills, and set up tasks that run while you sleep.

Two words you'll see below, in plain English:

  • ·Connectors: how Claude plugs into your tools like Gmail, Calendar, and Drive. They live under Settings then Connectors.
  • ·Skills: reusable instruction files Claude follows every time, so you never re-explain a task. This is how the "Skills" side of the CTS framework actually gets built.

That's all the vocabulary you need. Open a fresh chat and let's go.

Step 1 — Prompt 1 · Context

Let Claude interview you

Paste this into a fresh chat. Claude interviews you one question at a time, like a friend getting to know you, then writes a personal-instructions block that captures who you are and how you like to be talked to. Answer honestly and don't rush it. This is the first layer of Context, and everything else sits on top of it.

Copy-paste prompt

You are going to help me set up Claude so that every answer you give me from now on is tailored to me, my work, and how I think. We're going to do this as an interview, not a form. Do not skip ahead, and do not dump a giant list of questions at once.

The goal: by the end of this chat, you write me a personal-instructions block I can paste into Claude's settings, so every future conversation already knows who I am, what I do, what I'm trying to get done, and how I like you to respond.

Rules for the interview:
- Ask me ONE question at a time, then wait for my answer before the next one.
- Start broad, then go deeper based on what I say. Follow the thread.
- If an answer is vague, ask a follow-up until it's concrete. Push me for specifics: real numbers, real names, real examples.
- Keep it conversational, like a smart friend getting to know me. No survey energy.
- Roughly 12 to 18 questions total. Don't stop early just because you think you have enough.

Cover these areas, but in a natural order, not as a checklist you read out loud:
1. Who I am. Name, where I live, what I do for work, my role, how long I've done it.
2. My work. The business or job in detail. What I actually produce. Who my customers or team are. How I make money or get judged.
3. My goals. What I'm trying to hit in the next 90 days and the next year. What "winning" looks like for me.
4. My week. How I actually spend my time. What eats my hours. What I dread. What I'm best at.
5. My skills and gaps. What I'm great at, what I'm weak at, what I'd love to just hand off to you.
6. How I communicate. My tone, the words I use, the words I hate, examples of writing that sounds like me.
7. How I want you to respond. Long or short. Direct or gentle. Push back on me or agree. Ask before acting or just go.
8. Anything else a great assistant would kill to know about me.

When you have enough, say: "I have what I need. Here's your personal-instructions block." Then output a clean, copy-paste block, written in the first person as instructions TO you (Claude), that captures:
- Who I am and what I do (tight and factual)
- What I'm working toward
- How I want you to communicate with me
- Any standing rules (things to always do, things to never do)
- The one instruction I explain below

Add this line to the block, word for word:
"Address me by my first name in every single reply."

That's a reliability trick. The moment you stop using my name, it's my signal the chat has gotten too long and I should start a fresh one.

Keep the final block under 400 words. Plain language, no fluff. This is the thing I'm going to live with in every single chat, so make it count.

Start now with your first question. Just one.

Step 2 — Save It · Context

Paste the block into settings

When Claude hands you the personal-instructions block, copy it. Then go to Settings then Personalization (in some versions it's called Profile or Personal preferences) and paste it into the instructions box. Save.

That's the whole step. From now on, every new chat starts with Claude already knowing who you are, what you're working on, and how you want it to talk to you. You just deleted the part where you re-explain yourself at the top of every conversation.

The name trick: your block tells Claude to use your first name in every reply. That's not vanity. When Claude stops using your name, it's a free warning light that the chat has run too long and you should start a fresh one. Reliability for free.

Step 3 — Connect Your Tools · Tools

Give Claude hands, and a faster mouth

Out of the box, Claude can only talk. Connectors let it actually do things in your real accounts: read your email, check your calendar, pull a doc. Go to Settings then Connectors and turn on the ones you use. Start with these three and you've got 80% of the value.

Gmail

Unlocks inbox triage, drafted replies, follow-ups, and fast responses to important emails.

Calendar

Unlocks daily agendas, meeting prep, and reminders that actually know your schedule.

Drive

Unlocks pulling context from your real docs, generating files, and building reports.

The tool most people skip

Add a voice-to-text tool on top of all of this. Talking to Claude instead of typing gets you working roughly 4x faster, and you naturally give it way more context in the same amount of time, because you stop editing yourself down to save typing. I use Wispr Flow. The full 2-minute setup is in 5 Secret Claude Tips if you want the deeper walkthrough.

Step 4 — Prompts 2 & 3 · Context

Build your second brain

Your personal instructions give Claude the short version of you. A second brain gives it the full file. This is two prompts, pasted back to back in the same chat: the first interviews you about your whole life, work and personal, the second turns that conversation into an actual folder of files. From then on, any chat can read them and start with full context instead of a blank page.

Prompt 2 — The interview

Copy-paste prompt

Now I want you to help me build a second brain: a set of files on my computer that store everything about my work and my life, so that in every future chat you can read them and instantly have full context on me. No more re-explaining myself.

We're going to do this in two steps, as two separate prompts. This first one is just the interview. Don't build anything yet.

Same interview rules as before: ask me ONE question at a time, wait for my answer, follow the thread, push me for specifics. Audit BOTH my work life and my personal life. Roughly 12 to 20 questions. Move through these areas naturally, not as a list you read out loud:

Work
- What I do and the current state of it (projects, clients, revenue, deadlines, what's on fire)
- The people in my work world (team, clients, partners, key contacts, and what matters about each)
- My tools and where my important stuff already lives
- The recurring work I do every week or month
- My goals and the real numbers I'm chasing

Personal
- The big areas of my life outside work (health, family, money, home, hobbies, learning)
- Goals and habits I'm trying to build or break
- Important people in my personal life and what matters about them
- What's stressing me out or getting dropped

When you've got enough to build a real second brain from, stop and tell me: "I have what I need. Say the word and I'll build your second brain." Then wait. I'll paste a second prompt in this same chat that tells you to actually build it, so don't build anything until then.

Start with question one. Just one.

Prompt 3 — Build it

Copy-paste prompt

Now build my second brain from everything you just learned about me in this conversation: an actual folder system on my computer (or, if you can't write files here, lay it out so clearly that I can create it in two minutes).

Use this as your starting structure, but rename things to fit MY real life based on what I told you:

second-brain/
START-HERE.md <- the map. what every folder holds and how you should use this brain.
about-me.md <- who I am, my story, my goals, how I communicate
  work/
overview.md <- my business or job, how it works, how I make money
projects/ <- one file per active project, with status and next steps
people/ <- one file per key person and what I know about them
goals.md <- my targets and the numbers
  personal/
overview.md <- my life outside work
people/ <- important people in my personal life
goals.md <- personal goals and habits
routines.md <- the recurring tasks in my life, work and personal

Fill every file with the real details I gave you in our conversation. Do not leave placeholders. Where something is missing, ask me one more question instead of guessing.

In START-HERE.md, write clear instructions to your future self, like: "Whenever we start a task, read the relevant files in this second brain first, so you have full context on [my name] before you answer." Make it so any future version of you knows to use this brain automatically.

When you're done, show me the full structure and tell me the one habit that keeps a second brain alive: when something important changes, I tell you, and you update the file.

Feed it your meetings

Once the folder exists, keep it fed. Record every meeting or important conversation you have (Granola or Wispr Flow both do this), then drop the transcript into a meetings/ folder inside your second brain. Tell Claude to check that folder before it answers anything about a person or project. This is the difference between an AI that knows your life in general and one that knows exactly what was said on last Tuesday's call, without you repeating it.

Back it up

Once this folder is doing real work, sync it to GitHub so you never lose it to a wiped laptop or a bad edit. The full copy-paste prompt for that is Tip 5 in 5 Secret Claude Tips.

Step 5 — Prompts 4 & 5 · Skills

Build your first automation

This is where it stops being a setup and starts being a payoff, and it's also the answer to the question that stops most people cold: "I don't know HOW to build or automate this." You don't need to know how. You just explain what you're imagining, in plain English, and ask Claude how to do it. Two prompts, pasted back to back: the first finds the highest-leverage thing in your week to automate, the second builds it as a skill and puts it on autopilot.

Prompt 4 — Find the one

Copy-paste prompt

You now know a lot about me: my personal instructions and my second brain. I want you to use all of it to find the single highest-leverage thing in my life to automate.

This is the first of two prompts. This one just finds the target. Don't build anything yet.

STEP 1 — REVIEW
Read everything you know about me: my personal instructions and every file in my second brain. If anything looks thin, ask me a couple of quick questions to fill the gaps before you go further.

STEP 2 — FIND THE ONE
Look at all the recurring work in my life and find the single best task to automate right now. Score the candidates on three things:
- Time: how many hours a week or month it eats
- Dread: how much I hate doing it, or how often I drop it
- Doability: how cleanly you could actually do it with the tools I have

Show me your top 3 as a short ranked list with your reasoning, then recommend the ONE to build first.

Stop there and wait for me to confirm or override your pick. Once I do, I'll paste the second prompt in this same chat to have you actually build it.

Start with Step 1.

Prompt 5 — Build it and schedule it

Copy-paste prompt

Build the automation we just landed on as a reusable skill, so it runs the same way every time and I never have to re-explain it.

STEP 1 — BUILD IT AS A SKILL
Use the built-in Skill Creator to build it properly. Tell me plainly:
- What the skill does, step by step
- What it needs from me or my connected tools to run
- Anything I have to connect or turn on first, and exactly how to do it

Then build it and run it once as a test, so we both watch it work. Fix anything that's off.

STEP 2 — PUT IT ON AUTOPILOT
If this task should happen on a schedule (every morning, every Friday, the first of the month) or whenever something specific happens, set it up as a scheduled task so it runs without me. Tell me exactly when it'll run and what it'll do each time. If it genuinely shouldn't be automatic, say so, and tell me the trigger that should make me run it by hand.

One rule: build ONE thing, and build it well. Don't try to automate my whole life today. We get one real win running, I live with it for a week, then I come back and build the next one.

Start with Step 1.

If Something Sticks

Troubleshooting

"Claude didn't interview me, it just gave me a list."

Paste the prompt again in a fresh chat. If it still rushes, reply: "Stop. Ask me one question at a time and wait for my answer."

"I can't find where the personal instructions go."

Look under Settings for Personalization, Profile, or Personal preferences. If you're stuck, ask Claude directly: "Walk me through where to paste my personal instructions, step by step."

"A tool I use has no connector."

Expected, and fine. Tell Claude which tool it is and it'll give you a workaround. You don't need everything connected to get real value today.

"This feels like a lot."

Do Step 1 and Step 2 today. That alone changes every answer Claude gives you. The rest can wait for tomorrow. You don't have to do all five in one sitting.

That's the System

Context, Tools, Skills, wired together

That's the whole build. Context so Claude knows you, Tools so it can actually act, Skills so it never has to be taught the same thing twice. Do these five steps once and you've got an AI operating system instead of a chatbot, one that compounds every time you use it instead of resetting to zero.
