Stop Re-Explaining Yourself to Your AI

Your AI is only as good as the context it has. This is the exact prompt from the video: Claude interviews you, then builds a folder in your Google Drive with everything it needs to know about you. Connect it once and every chat starts out knowing who you are, how you work and what you're trying to get done.

Garbage context in, garbage answers out

PwC's 2026 AI Jobs Barometer found jobs that need AI skills now pay a 62% wage premium on average. The skill isn't knowing which AI to use. It's knowing how to get great work out of it.

Most people treat AI like a fancier Google. They type one line, get a generic answer and decide AI is overhyped. The problem isn't the AI. It's that it knows nothing about them, so it guesses.

The fix is a context folder: a handful of short docs about you, your work, your goals and your repeat tasks, living in your Google Drive. Your AI reads it before it answers. You write it once, by answering questions, and it keeps itself up to date.

What you need

  • Claude (free works, Pro is better)
The desktop app or claude.ai in your browser. Projects, which make this fully automatic, need a paid plan. The free plan still works: you just attach the docs to each chat.
  • A Google account
The folder lives in your Google Drive, so it's yours. You can read it, edit it and plug it into any AI you use later.
  • About 20 minutes
Most of it is you answering questions. The more specific you are, the better every future answer gets. Voice-to-text works great here.

1. Connect Google Drive + Google Docs to Claude

You need two connectors. Google Drive lets Claude make the folder and find your files. Google Docs lets Claude actually write the docs inside it. Skip the second one and Claude hands you downloadable files instead of real Google Docs.

  1. Open Customize → Connectors In the Claude desktop app or on claude.ai, click Customize in the sidebar, then the Connectors tab.
  2. Add Google Drive Find Google Drive, click the +, and sign in with your Google account when it asks.
  3. Add Google Docs Same thing for Google Docs. Use the same Google account.
  4. Make sure they're on in your chat In a new chat, click the + under the message box, hover Connectors, and check both are toggled on.

On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan? An owner has to switch these connectors on for the organization before you can add them.

2. Paste this prompt into a new chat

This is the one from the video. Claude interviews you one question at a time, pushes back when an answer is vague, then builds eight short docs in a My AI Context folder. At the end it tells you the first three tasks it can take off your plate.

Copy-paste prompt: build my context folder
You're going to build my personal context folder in Google Drive, so neither you nor any other AI ever has to ask me the basics again.

HOW TO INTERVIEW ME
- Ask me ONE question at a time. Wait for my answer before the next one.
- Go in this order: (1) who I am and what I do, (2) who I do it for, (3) my goals for the next 90 days, (4) how I like to work and communicate, (5) how I write and sound, (6) the tools I use every day, (7) the tasks I repeat every week, (8) my pet peeves with AI answers.
- If an answer is vague, ask a follow-up before moving on. "I do marketing" is not an answer. "I run Facebook ads for 4 dental offices and report to them every Monday" is.
- For every repeated task, get: what it is, how often I do it, the steps I take, what "done well" looks like, and how long it takes me.
- If I say "skip", move on. If I say "done", stop and build the folder with what you have.
- Tell me which section we're on and roughly how many questions are left, so I know where we are.

WHAT TO BUILD WHEN WE'RE DONE
1. Use the Google Drive connector to create a folder called "My AI Context".
2. Inside it, create these Google Docs (real Google Docs, not downloadable files):
   - 00 Start Here: a one-page summary of me plus a list of the other docs and what each one is for. Any AI should be able to read only this doc and get 80% of the picture.
   - 01 About Me: who I am, what I do, who I do it for, what makes my situation different.
   - 02 Goals: my 90-day goals, what I'm working on right now, what I'm NOT focused on.
   - 03 How I Work: how I like answers (length, format, tone), how I make decisions, my schedule and energy.
   - 04 My Voice: how I write and talk, words I use, words I'd never use, 2-3 real examples of my writing if I gave you any.
   - 05 Tools: every tool I use and what I use it for.
   - 06 Recurring Tasks: one section per repeated task with the frequency, steps, what good looks like, and time it takes.
   - 07 Rules For AI: my pet peeves and the rules any AI should follow when working for me.
3. Write every doc in short plain bullet points so any AI can read it fast. Use my own words wherever you can. Never invent facts I didn't give you.
4. When it's built, send me the folder link, then tell me the 3 recurring tasks from doc 06 you could take off my plate first, and exactly what I'd type to hand each one over.

FROM NOW ON
Whenever I tell you something new about my work, my clients, my goals, or how I like things done, update the right doc in "My AI Context" and tell me in one line what you changed.

Start with your first question.
  • Be annoyingly specific
Names, numbers, real examples. "I post 3 times a week on LinkedIn for accountants" beats "I do content." Every detail you give now is one you never type again.
  • Paste real writing for the voice doc
When it asks how you write, paste 2 or 3 emails or posts you actually sent. That one move makes everything it writes for you sound like you.

3. Plug it into every chat

Now make Claude read the folder every time. The best way is a Claude Project, which loads your context into every chat inside it automatically.

  1. Create a Project Click Projects in the sidebar, then New project. Call it "Work" or your business name. Keep it private: Drive files only attach to private projects.
  2. Add your context docs In the project's Files section, click +, choose Drive, and add each doc from your My AI Context folder. They sync live, so when Claude updates a doc, the project sees the new version.
  3. Paste these project instructions Open the project's Instructions and paste the block below. This is what makes it read your context first and keep the folder up to date on its own.
Copy-paste: project instructions
Before you answer anything, read "00 Start Here" in my project files, then read whichever other "My AI Context" docs are relevant to what I'm asking.

Follow "07 Rules For AI" every time. Write in the voice described in "04 My Voice" whenever you write something for me to send or post.

If I tell you something new about my work, goals, clients, tools, or preferences, update the right doc in my "My AI Context" folder in Google Drive and tell me in one line what you changed. Never delete anything without asking me first.

On the free plan? Skip the project. Start each work chat by clicking + → Add from Google Drive and attaching 00 Start Here plus whichever docs fit the task.

Same idea, two small changes

Connect Google Drive in ChatGPT's settings (it lives under connectors, also called apps), then paste the same prompt from Step 2. If ChatGPT can't create files in your Drive on your plan, add this line to the end of the prompt: If you can't create Google Docs, give me each doc as text I can paste into a new Google Doc.

Then make a ChatGPT Project, add the docs as project files, and paste the Step 3 instructions into the project's instructions. The docs are yours either way, so you can switch AIs anytime and bring your context with you.

The monthly tune-up

The project instructions keep the folder updated as you work. Once a month, run this in your project anyway. Goals change, clients change, and stale context gives stale answers.

Copy-paste prompt: monthly tune-up
Read every doc in my "My AI Context" folder in Google Drive.

Then interview me, one question at a time, about anything that looks outdated, vague, or missing. Ask about: goals I've hit or dropped, new clients or projects, tools I've added or stopped using, and tasks I've started repeating.

When we're done, update the docs, and give me a short list of everything you changed.

4 things that trip people up

  • It gave me download files, not Google Docs
The Google Docs connector isn't on. Turn it on (+ → Connectors) and say "make those real Google Docs in my My AI Context folder."
  • It keeps asking for approval
That's normal. Claude asks before it changes things in your Drive. Approve each step, or allow that action for the chat.
  • "Access blocked: your institution's admin needs to review Claude"
You're on a work Google account. Your Google Workspace admin has to mark Claude as a trusted app, or use a personal Google account instead.
  • The answers still feel generic
Open 00 Start Here and read it like a stranger. If it's vague, the answers will be too. Run the tune-up prompt and give it real numbers, names and examples.

Context is the foundation

Everything else in the Practical AI series stacks on top of this folder. Agents, automations, skills: they all work better when your AI already knows who you are. Get this one done before tomorrow's.
